Between the years 1952 to 1954, the book Historia da Educacao Fisica e dos Desportos no Brasil appears as the first complete work on the History of Brazilian Physical Education. Composed by four volumes, it includes events and facts about the History of Brazilian Physical Education from 1500 to 1946. Throughout its 1168 pages, its author, Inezil Penna Marinho, gathers a set of documents (official acts, books and quantitative data) arising research and organizes them chronologically and with an emphasis on the political milestones of Brazilian History (the Colonial, the Imperial and the Republican periods of Brazil). It is a form that can be treated as a reference work, either by the characteristics of its narrative or by the reader it was intended to reach. To organize a narrative of the History of Physical Education in Brazil and make it available to everyone, the Historia da Educagdo Fisica e dos Desportos no Brasil is part of the teachers' training course, informing, and giving contours to the History of Brazilian Physical Education.
