SYNTHESIS AND CRYSTAL STRUCTURES OF IONIC CLUSTER COMPLEXES [Cu-2(en)(2)(mu-CN)][{Cu(en)}(3)Re(6)Q(8)(CN)(6)]center dot en center dot H2O (Q = S, Se)

Two new compounds of the composition [Cu-2(en)(2)(mu-CN)][{Cu(en)}(3)Re(6)Q(8)(CN)(6)]center dot en center dot H2O (Q = S, Se) are synthesized under solvothermal conditions from a mixture of CuCN, ethylenediamine (en), and Cs2.67K1.33[Re6S8(CN)(2)(OH)(4)]center dot 4H(2)O or Cs2.75K1.25[Re6Se8(CN)(4)(OH)(2)]center dot H2O respectively. As a result of the reaction, CN- ligands substitute for OH- ones and fac-isomeric [{Cu(en)}(3)Re(6)Q(8)(CN)(6)](-) anions are formed whose negative charge is compensated by the [Cu-2(en)(2)(mu-CN)](+) complex cation. The compounds obtained are isostructural and they are characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
