Design and Simulation of a Vibration Isolation Platform Based on Air Spring for Road Transportation Applications

Air springs have been widely used in suspension systems of vehicles. While for the vehicles that do not have air suspension system in the original design, it is often of high cost to refit them with air suspension. In this paper, a vibration isolation platform based on air spring is designed, which can achieve low lost portable air suspension without refitting the vehicle. Simulation model is established and some simulation work has been conducted to explore the overall characteristics of the system. Simulation results show that the system is perfect for the vibration isolation of environment vibration frequency larger than 2 Hz, especially larger than 5 Hz. The design and simulation in this paper gives an alternative that can realize portable air spring based vibration isolation for fragile objects without refitting vehicles that have no air suspension.
