摘要

•Diabetes mellitus (DM) impairs phrenic nerve compound muscle action potential (CMAP).•Progressive decrease in CMAP amplitude and area occurs from 30 to 90 days after DM.•Transient changes in duration (30 and 60 days) and latency (60 days) was observed.•These observations suggest a decrement in axonal function rather than demyelination.
