Magnetic anomaly patterns and volcano-tectonic features associated with geothermal prospect areas in the Ziway-Shala Lakes Basin, Central Main Ethiopian Rift

•First, detailed magnetic analysis of the Aluto-Langano geothermal field and surrounding area within the Central Main Ethiopian Rift.•Residual magnetic field indicates several maxima and minima related to igneous intrusions.•Forward modeling provided constraints on the location and depth of magma intrusions.•The magnetic analysis suggests that geothermal fluids thermally altered magnetic minerals under the Aluto-Langano geothermal field.•Derivative andresidual magnetic maps indicate lineaments that may transfer geothermal fluids between the Silti Debre Zeyet Fault Zone and the Aluto-Langano geothermal field.
