Cluster-Randomized Trials in Special Education Research

Cluster-randomized trials have grown increasingly common in special education research over the past 20 years. We describe reasons to use cluster-randomized trials versus individually randomized designs, which are also called randomized control trials. We also present considerations related to sampling, statistical power, data analysis, and the reporting of results. We use studies published by researchers working with special populations to illustrate our points.
