A Multi-Input Single-Output DC-DC Converter with Fuzzy Supervisor Controller for Hybrid Renewable Energy Applications

Due to the fluctuating nature of renewable energy sources, voltage stability and power management become the main concerns of a hybrid power generation system. Therefore, improving power technology and control methods are necessary for improving power efficiency. In this study, an integrated Cuk-Sepic multi-input single-output (MISO) converter is applied to integrate multiple power sources for hybrid renewable energy applications. This converter can be used separately or in tandem depending on the availability of backup sources in the case where one of the sources fails, which makes the system more reliable. Additionally, a Fuzzy Supervisor Controller (FSC) is presented to effectively control the flow of power while keeping the output voltage stable. By applying the proposed control schemes and an energy storage unit, the developed structure allows the renewable energy sources to work in maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation mode. The performance of the proposed integrated control strategy under dynamic outdoor conditions is evaluated and compared with the traditional method, which shows improved power-sharing and power flow control capability in a hybrid power system.
