Electrochemical Cobalt‐Catalyzed CH Activations with Potential

Cobalt‐catalyzed oxidative CH functionalization has been recognized as a competent tool for the assembly of CC and CHet bonds, which provides unique potential for transformative applications in molecular sciences. In the earlier advances, stoichiometric and/or toxic transition metals were typically used as sacrificial oxidants for these transformations; thus, the generation of metal‐containing by‐products were inevitable. In contrast, a significant monument was gained by merging the electroorganic synthesis with cobalt‐catalyzed CH functionalization. Thus, electricity is employed as a sustainable and environmentally benign redox reagent, thereby significantly circumventing the consumption of cost‐intensive chemicals. Given the unparalleled potential of the aforementioned approaches for sustainable synthesis, this chapter summarizes the recent progress in electrochemical cobalt‐catalyzed CH activations.
