Quantifying these parameters from geoelectric methods at the field scale (e.g., electrical resistivity tomography) is difficult due to the complex relationship between electrical properties and subsurface parameters and the integrative nature of the geoelectric measurement. To address this difficulty and enable enhanced data analysis at the field scale, hydrogeophysical parameters for Hanford geologic units were measured on intact sediment cores from the Hanford Central Plateau. A lab-scale apparatus was designed and built that allows for simultaneous collection of geoelectric and hydrogeological data. This enables coincident measurements of data for quantifying hydraulic conductivity, porosity, and soil water retention parameters in conjunction with geophysical data. Additional analyses were performed destructively after these measurements had been completed to quantify grain size, surface area, and bulk density of the sample. Hydrologic, geophysical, and physical data were determined to provide information on relationships between parameters of interest for a given core sample. The use of the new laboratory apparatus and measurement workflow was demonstrated for an intact core from the Hanford formation at 200-UP-1. Parameters from physical and hydraulic analysis of the sample aligned with previously published values for the Hanford formation silty sand. Geophysical parameters of the sample provided information for developing site-specific petrophysical relationships that can inform field-scale campaigns where geoelectric data are collected.
