Gastrointestinal Tract Infections: Viruses

Diarrheal diseases are a leading cause of morbidity worldwide, particularly among young children, and viral etiologies of diarrheal illnesses are common. Major viral etiologies of diarrheal disease include rotavirus, norovirus, sapovirus, astrovirus, and enteric adenoviruses. This chapter will discuss molecular, immunological, and epidemiological aspects of each of these five enteric viruses, including methods of diagnosis, prevention, and control.
