•NH3 and N2O emissions were investigated over commercial TWC.•Emissions were characterized through full and simple mixture feed tests.•NH3 formation is directly affected by NOH2 reaction.•N2O formation is mainly associated with NOCO reaction.•Surface intermediates were identified for NH3 and N2O formations.
