Design of an Affordable Hydrogen Peroxide Propulsion System for CubeSats

The CubeSats market is continuously growing in recent years, pushing the need to provide this satellite class of propulsion systems for orbit maneuverability. In this context, Green Propellants' chemical monopropellant propulsion systems are a competitive solution with respect to more popular electric ones. This paper presents the design of an affordable propulsion system for CubeSats powered by Hydrogen Peroxide. The design focused on the storage subsystem and the thruster. An innovative modular cubic tank of 1 U volume is proposed, which permits to maximize the propulsive performance. The designed solution offers a low-cost, low power consumption, and compact system that is able to perform the typical maneuvers for CubeSats. The presented architecture powered by HTP is compared with other green monopropellant solutions, proving to be a valid competitive option in the market of propulsion systems for CubeSat.
