Implementation of a multimodal and interactive e-book in psychology of learning and conditioning

Psychology of learning and conditioning is usually perceived as a hard course for undergraduate psychology students. This subject implies high novel, complex and abstract concepts that are essential for building a basic psychology background. Making students involved in their learning process may lead to a better understanding of the subject, and in general, of the entire discipline. The use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and the development of recent methodologies, including videos, images, practical exercises and infographics, allow students to engage in the teaching-learning process in an interactive way, increasing motivation and expectations towards the content and facilitating the assimilation of concepts. For these reasons, we have created a multimodal and interactive E-book about Learning and Conditioning, with accessible material and updated theoretical content supported by numerous examples from its closest environments such as social media, that help to understand and consolidate all the concepts. This support material was applied for the first time during the academic year 2020-2021. Then, we applied the Questionnaire for Teaching Material Evaluation (González-Such et al., 2014) specially designed to evaluate teaching material in educational innovation spaces. This questionnaire asked the students about the usefulness, organization, quality and understandability of the E-book compared to the traditional material of the course. We found that students perceived the interactive E-book as very supportive and useful to understand better the contents of Learning and Conditioning compared to the traditional material. Given the understandability of this learning tool, it could be implemented in future courses following a flipped classroom modality.Funding: This teaching innovation project was founded by the University of Almería (20-21-2-09C).
