Risk management of supply chain disruptions: An epidemic modeling approach

•SIS epidemic model is used to analyse risk and supply disruptions in networks.•Disruption’s magnitude depends strongly on index case and network structure.•Upstream-centric networks experience lower disruption risk.•Disruption is correlated with existence of highly centralized nodes.•One of most effective metrics for identifying central nodes is Authority weight.
