Abstract
Modeling and Simulation (M&S) are powerful tools for exploring edge cases that can be considered too high risk for testing initially on aircraft. When deploying from the ramp, a bundle must be at least 28 psi on the smallest surface. Weight requirements have been time tested to show that the bundle, such as vehicles, water, or weight tubs, would not be blown into the tail or fuselage. Recently some non-standard payload developments from Aerial Delivery Division (ADD) at U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center (DEVCOM Soldier Center) have brought into question the requirements when there are open surfaces, low density payloads, and non-uniform mass distributions. High-fidelity, multi-physics simulation results will lead to a better understanding of new cases, what payload limits could be adjusted, and ramifications of pushing the limits too far. The ability to examine this test matrix is enabled by the HPCMP CREATE-AV Kestrel software suite.
