•Baoshan consists of early massive Cu–Mo–Pb–Zn and late brecciated Cu mineralization.•Ni/As and As/Sb ratios can be the indicators for sources of ore-forming materials.•Basements contributed significantly for the Baoshan Cu–Mo–Pb–Zn mineralization.•Areas with well-developed fractures can be the potential targets of exploration.
