摘要
Alnus glutinosa (alder, Family: Betulaceae) and Moringa oleifera (drumstick tree, Family: Moringaceae) are cultivated throughout Africa and Asia. Both plants have had substantial value and traditional importance for ages due to metabolites that cure numerous ailments. The plants of the Alnus genus include important pharmacological metabolites including phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, diarylheptanoids, and steroids with the ability to cure deadly diseases such as cancer, hepatitis, and HIV-1 replication. Also, the Moringa genus consists of phenolics, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, glucosinolates, isothiocyanates, and saponins to cure several chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and inflammation. Owing to the beneficial effects, the present chapter focuses on and outlines the characteristics of the metabolites present in A. glutinosa and M. oleifera with its importance in Ayurveda and promising beneficial outcomes in medicine. Overall, the chapter concludes with a promising strategy for curing several conditions using A. glutinosa and M. oleifera due to the occurrence of potential secondary metabolites.
