AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON ADJUSTMENT PROBLEMS AMONG SCHOOL GOING ADOLESCENT STUDENTS

Adolescence is the most important and crucial period in a person's development. It is a time of rapid revolution in an individual's physical, mental, moral, spiritual, sexual, and social perspectives. Adolescence is a transitional period marked by psychological instability and adjustment difficulties. The process of maintaining a balance between bodily, social, and psychological demands, as well as the conditions that impact the fulfilment of these needs, is known as adjustment. Adjustment is critical to a child's development. During this period, the equilibrium of physical, mental, and social forces is lost, requiring the individual to make new adjustments with himself, his family, and society at large. Some adolescents do not deal with these challenges positively, which leads to personal and social problems and maladjustment. The majority of students experience frustrations, conflicts, complexes, anxieties, and worries. The main objectives of the study are to analyze the demographic nature of the sample respondents and to study the adjustment problem of the respondents. The study is descriptive in nature and conducted in Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu. 300 sample respondents are selected using simple random technique. The sample respondents are school going adolescent children studying higher. It is concluded that the result of the mean rank is valid. The ranking given to the mobile phone usage, unfulfilled unrealistic demands and feeling of loneliness are found significant.
