•A novel procedure is proposed to evaluate the deformation of squeegee.•The analytical solution of deformation for wedge squeegee is obtained.•A mathematical model of flow field for 3D additive printing is developed.•The effect of process parameters on flow field is quantified by sensitivity analysis.
