•Facet temperature is obtained via thermoreflectance with adequate probe wavelength.•Temperature peak of LD is located at coating interior boundary for light absorption.•Transient thermal characteristics similar in thermoreflectance and electric method.•Thermometry using fiber detection and transmission is convenient and nondestructive.
