Combined experimental and theoretical study of conjugated ferrocene semiconductors and the effect of doping on their opto-electrical and structural properties

•A series of semiconductor ferrocene-doped films have been deposited.•The novel semiconductor films were structurally characterized.•Electronic properties of the ferrocene semiconductors were investigated using a Density Functional Theory.•The ferrocene-doped materials were incorporated as thin films in the devices.•The electrical behavior of the semiconductors films was evaluated.
