Microscopic description of 2 alpha-decay in Po-212 and (224)Raisotopes

Half-lives calculations for alpha decay of Po-212 and Ra-224 are performedusing microscopic self-consistent framework. Calculations are performed using thecovariant energy density functional theory within Hartree-Bogoliubov approxima-tion, where a separable pairing interaction of finite range is used. The potentialenergy surface is computed as a function of quadrupole, octupole and hexadecupolecollective coordinates and the determination of the dynamical least-action path isperformed using the cranking adiabatic time-dependent Hartree Bogoliubov approx-imation. The predicted half-lives for alpha decay of Po-212 and Ra-224 are in good agree-ment with experimental values. In addition, a new decay mode consisting of sym-metric, back to back, 2 alpha emission is predicted with half-lives of the order of thoseobserved for cluster emission
