摘要
Chitosan is one of the most widely used biopolymers in wound healing applications due to its diverse physicochemical properties. On the other hand, curcumin possesses unique features like antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, immunomodulatory, antidiabetic etc. Curcumin extract was isolated from turmeric using solvent extraction method and biopolymeric hydrogel was synthesized using varying compositions of chitosan polymer. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were used for the evaluation of the developed extract and the developed hydrogel. FTIR spectra of biopolymeric chitosan hydrogel, curcumin extract and curcumin-loaded hydrogel showed characteristic absorption bands at 3338 cm(-1) due to O-H stretching while the unique peaks of chitosan at 1634 cm(-1) (Amide I), 1414 cm(-1) (Amide III) were also observed in the hydrogel. Curcumin extract showed the characteristic peaks at 2973 cm(-1) -CH3 stretching and 1045 cm(-1) C-OH stretching. GC-MS analysis of curcumin extract showed a single major peak at retention time of 1.41 min; combined spectra analysis of the same peak showed more than twentyfive compounds. NIST database analysis report revealed that curcumin extract and curcumin standard showed almost similar compounds in terms of molecular weight and chemical formula.
