Sudden branch macular artery avulsion during internal limiting membrane peeling for idiopathic macular hole: A case report

•Branch macular artery avulsion can occur during internal limiting membrane peeling.•Branch macular artery avulsion is a potential complication even for experienced surgeons.•Prevention consists in initiating the peeling flap formation away from the macular vessels.•Intraoperative raise of the intraocular pressure can help to get hemostasis.•If intraoperative visualization is adequate, the peeling can be completed.
