摘要

•A novel green fluorescence sensor FLN for Hg2+ was developed.•FLN demonstrated a distinct fluorescence enhancing due to the “PET-off” .•FLN towards Hg2+ features good selectivity, high sensitivity and eminent photostability.•With low toxicity, FLN was successfully applied for quantitatively monitoring Hg2+ and evaluating its toxicity in living cells.
