Petrogenesis of late Permian to Middle Triassic magmatic rocks on northern Hainan Island, South China: Implications for crust–mantle interaction and the tectonic evolution of the Paleo-Tethys

•Gabbros were formed by the mixing of asthenosphere with lithospheric mantle.•Gabbroic-dioritic rocks originated from the metasomatized mantle.•Plutonism was related to the tectonic evolution of the Paleo-Tethys.•Magmatic rocks record complex multistage crust-mantle interactions.
