•Minimal δ13C fractionation during the production of MDA from helional.•Fractionation observed in δ2H, δ15N and δ18O.•Additional fractionation occurred in δ2H and δ15N during HCl precipitation.•These results suggest tactical intelligence applications of MDA stable isotope ratios.
