•Mn segregates at the α-Al/(0001)TiB2 interface in Al-3Ti-4B master alloy.•Fe segregates at the α-Al/(0001)TiB2 interface in Al-3Ti-4B master alloy.•The size of primary Al6(Fe,Mn) particles reduced from 26.0 ± 2.1 μm to 9.5 ± 0.6 μm.•(200) Al6(Fe,Mn) ∼ (0001) TiB2 and [021] Al6(Fe,Mn) // [11–20] TiB2.
