摘要
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the associations between compliance with 24-hour movement guidelines (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep duration) and markers of adiposity in adults from Latin American countries. METHODS: A sample consisted of 2338 adults aged 18 to 65 years (mean 38.2) from eight Latin America countries (i.e., Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela). Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary behavior data were objectively measured using Actigraph accelerometers. Sleep duration was self-reported using a daily log. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were assessed. Meeting the 24-hour movement guidelines was defined as: ≥150 min/week of MVPA; ≤8 hours/day of sedentary behavior; and between 7 and 9 hours/day of sleep. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95%CI were obtained from logistic regression models. RESULTS: The number of guidelines being meet was 0.90 (95%CI: 0.86,0.93) with higher value in men than women (1.02 [95%CI: 0.98,1.07] vs 0.78 [95%CI: 0.73,0.82]). We also found differences between countries ranging from 0.74 (95%CI: 0.65,0.82) in Venezuela to 1.14 (95%CI: 1.03,1.24) in Chile. Two and three numbers of the guidelines being meet was negatively associated with BMI (OR: 0.75, 95%CI: 0.58,0.97 and OR: 0.69, 95%CI: 0.51,0.85) and be above of WC (OR: 0.74, 95%CI: 0.56,0.97 and OR: 0.77, 95%CI: 0.62,0.96). In men, we found negative association between two and three numbers of the guidelines being meet with BMI and WC. There were no significant associations in women. Meeting the MVPA and/or sedentary behavior were negatively associated with BMI and WC in total sample and in men. There were no significant associations in women. The associations were not significant between meeting sleep duration with BMI and WC. CONCLUSIONS: Our results contribute to understanding about how compliance with 24-hour movement guidelines is associated with lower indicators of adult adiposity, as well as contribute to evidence development of 24-hour movement guidelines for Latin America. Future research is needed to gain better insights into the directionality of the associations between compliance with 24-hour movement guidelines and obesity.
