A space deployable antenna model based on shape memory alloy composite with folding‐deploying two‐way behavior

In this study, a flexible space deployable antenna model with good self-folding and deploying two-way shape memory effect is proposed and prepared based on shape memory alloy composite strips and polyimide thin film. The thickness and cyclic properties of the shape memory alloy strip were considered for the two-way shape memory effect. Good self-folding at 110 degrees C and self-deploying at 20 degrees C for 10 min were demonstrated. Moreover, the Joule heating method was applied to improve the folding speed within 90 s. The two-way shape memory effect with reversible self-folding and deploying behavior of the space deployable antennas is aimed at improving avoidance of space debris in future applications.
