A Practical Approach to Optimizing Neurodevelopment in Children With Congenital Heart Disease.

Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) are at increased risk of neurodevelopmental challenges. The importance of recognizing and addressing such challenges relies on the effect that these might have on a child's participation/quality of life. While ground-breaking research in CHD continues to focus on developing innovative strategies to improve survival and outcomes, there is still a need for a practical and collaborative approach aimed to improve the neurodevelopment of children with CHD. As a result, in this review we describe 8 practical actions to be considered by all physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals caring for children with CHD.
