摘要
Studies examining satisfaction with treatment in atopic dermatitis (AD) are limited. We aimed to better characterize the treatment experience of adults with AD and physicians who treat patients with AD using a population-based cohort (Gfk Knowledge Panel). Adults who met UK Working Party Criteria with age of onset < = 18 [N = 767]) were included. A parallel survey of physicians from a national sample was also conducted (allergists [N = 148], dermatologists [N = 149] and primary care medicine [N = 104]. Univariate logistic regression (odds ratio [OR] with 95% confidence interval [95% CI]) was used to examine factors associated with “treatment satisfaction” or “perceived patient treatment satisfaction” in patients and physicians. Factors associated with increased treatment satisfaction in patients include female gender (1.79; 1.11-2.89); less than 1 pain episode per week (3.43; 1.29-9.08); and equally sharing in treatment decisions [1.25; 0.48-3.24]). Factors associated with decreased treatment satisfaction include worse disease severity (0.20; 0.11-0.35); itch (0.14; 0.03-0.62); impact on sleep (0.21; 0.09-0.52); and not receiving a written action plan (0.36; 0.18-0.78). From the physician’s perspective, provider familiarity with AD treatment guidelines (1.62; 0.96-2.74) and use of a written eczema action plan (1.84;1.06-3.19) were associated with increased patient satisfaction. Factors associated with less treatment satisfaction included percentage of patients under care classified as severe (0.08; 0.01-0.60), being >10 years out from residency (0.39; 0.20-0.75); and less frequent follow-up visits (0.46 (0.21-1.00). Recognizing which factors are associated with treatment satisfaction in AD among patients and physicians can help inform future treatment strategies.
