•The Intra Tantato shear zone records both thrusting and normal shear sense activities.•The thrusting event accommodated NE-SW lower crustal shortening at ∼1.9 Ga.•Thrusting is linked to the compressive stage of the Snowbird orogeny.•The Intra Tantato shear zone was reactivated as an extensional structure ca. 1.86 Ga.•The normal-sense activity is linked to regional exhumation.
