摘要
This book review focuses on the recently revised second editions of the Clinician Guide and accompanying Workbook of Treating Later-Life Depression: A Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Approach written by the authors Ann Steffen, Larry Thompson, and Dolores Gallagher-Thompson; and Ann Steffen, Leah Dick-Siskin, Ann Bilbrey, Larry Thompson, and Dolores Gallagher-Thompson, respectively (2022). The newest versions contain everything needed to conduct cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression in older adults individually or in a group format based on the latest available evidence. The material includes content on depression, factors to consider when working with older adults, assessment instruments, session outlines, and standard cognitive-behavioral workbook materials for the client (unhelpful thought diary, activity record, mood records). The clinician guide has been formulated with the practitioner in mind with tips throughout based on years of practice with older adults. The books work in harmony with one another, tying in the session by session handouts that one would use with clients and must be used together. Also, issues that are commonly associated with depression in older adults such as pain, sleep, and brain health are discussed. Compared to the first editions, these have substantial additions of resources and content.
