Large non-volatile modulation of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Pb (Zr0.2Ti0.8) O3/SrRuO3

•Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy has been realized in the NbSrTiO3/ Pb (Zr0.2Ti0.8) O3 /SrRuO3 multiferroic heterostructure.•With opposite polarization fields, the coercivity field (HC) and saturated magnetization (MS) can be changed hugely. In out-of-plane orientation, the MS (HC) in downward polarization is increased (decreased) by ∼ 684 % (∼66%), compared with that in upward polarization. In in-plane orientation, the MS (HC) in downward polarization is increased (decreased) by ∼ 383 % (∼92 %), compared with that in upward polarization.•The migration of oxygen vacancies in the PZT/SRO interface plays an important role in this modulation.
