Design and Large Magnetostriction of Tb0.34Dy0.56Pr0.1Fe1.9/epoxy Composite Containing Near-Spherical Single-Crystal Particles

摘要
In this study, near-spherical Tb0.34Dy0.56Pr0.1Fe1.9 particles, with diameters in the range 50-200 mu m, were prepared via the low wettability effect. These particles are single crystals or near single crystals, which could be resulted from the abnormal grain growth. These particles were used to prepare giant magnetostrictive composites. Compared with irregularly shaped particles, sphere-shaped crystals can effectively improve the particleto-epoxy ratio as well as the (111) orientation of particles in the composite. Herein, well -<111>-oriented composites with 55 vol.% Tb0.34Dy0.56Pr0.1Fe1.9 were designed. The obtained composite exhibited a large saturation magnetostriction at an axial pressure of 10 MPa, lambda(parallel to) = similar to 2048 ppm, which is higher than that of the commercial Terfenol-D (1400-1800 ppm). The findings of our study provide novel insights for developing highperformance magnetostrictive composites containing light rare-earth Pr.
