This chapter discusses electrodeposition as a fabrication technique for the development of functional gas sensing layers in recent times. This describes in detail the principle and mechanism behind the method along with the effect of various parameters involved on the properties and structures of obtained layers. This chapter focuses on three types of material widely used for gas sensing viz. metal oxides, polymers, and metals. Their sensing mechanisms have been explained with an elaborate discussion of the fabrication process. The detailed description of structures obtained for various materials and their dependence on the control parameters have been illustrated. The effect of the same on the gas sensing properties viz., response time, recovery time, repeatability, etc. has also been highlighted. The distinct aspects of sensing behavior have been reviewed using several examples. In the end, the main drawbacks and challenges faced during this particular fabrication method have been pointed out.
