Green strategies for analysis of natural products

Natural product analyses must cover a wide range of topics, and they commonly have to deal with very complex samples. The development of appropriate sample preparation and analytical methods is therefore fundamental to obtain the required level of information. Conventional extraction and separation methods entail the use of a considerable amount of sample and reagents and high energy consumption. However, greener alternative can be adopted. The present chapter presents the sample preparation and analytical solutions that can be adopted to make the analysis of natural products more sustainable. Particular attention will be focused on the strategies for in situ and in vivo analysis through miniaturized and portable devices and instrumentations.
