Hydrogel electrolytes are considered as one kind of the ideal electrolyte materials due to their environmental friendliness and high biocompatibility. However, traditional hydrogels often suffer some defects, such as insufficient ductility and poor water retention. In article number 10.1002/cnl2.20, Zhang and co-workers reviewed the recent application of cellulose in hydrogel electrolytes. They also discussed the key challenges and opportunities for developing flexible batteries with cellulose-based electrolytes, providing novel insights into the development of energy storage for wearable devices.
