Wireless Power Transfer for Battery-less Implantable Medical Devices using Hook-shaped Defected Ground Structure Resonators

This paper proposes a wireless power transfer (WPT) to design a system for improving the efficiency of implantable medical devices designed using two resonators; both transmitter and receiver have the size (20 mm * 20 mm) and were built on a Rogers RO4003C substrate. The body tissue was substituted by a meat with a dielectric constant of 77, a conductivity of 0.68 s/m, and a loss tangent of 3.16. The measured performance of the fabricated WPT system is in good agreement with simulation results and is resilient to planar misalignment up to 20 mm and the Power was transmitted with an efficiency of 90% at a transmission distance of 26 mm.
