Attenuation methodology for torque oscillations in synchronous machine

Synchronous machines exhibit, under normal operating conditions, torque oscillation problems. This work presents a study that proposes a methodology for the reduction of these oscillations. It was tested in a synchronous generator powered environment with DC voltage supplying power to a common bus in permanent regime, this bus has the presence of a nonlinear load. There are oscillating components in the generator torque caused by non-continuous components in the excitation current of the generator field. Therefore, it is proposed to insert sinusoidal voltage components in the machine field in order to cancel out the sinusoidal components of the current, thus reducing torque fluctuations. A good result is observed in the attenuations of oscillating torque components in the synchronous machine operating as a generator.
