Epithelial Thickness Mapping for Keratoconus Screening by VHF Digital Ultrasound or Anterior Segment OCT

Keratoconus is a progressive corneal dystrophy that manifests as corneal thinning and formation of a cone-shaped protrusion. Because laser refractive surgery may lead to accelerated postoperative ectasia in patients with keratoconus, the accurate detection of early keratoconus is a major safety concern. Mapping the epithelial thickness profile may increase the sensitivity and specificity of screening for keratoconus compared with only using conventional corneal topographic and tomographic approaches.
