On blockage-induced characteristics of transduction efficiency for needle-ring electrohydrodynamic pumps

Electrohydrodynamic pumps are bladeless alternatives to rotary pumps. However, evaluating the performance of electrohydrodynamic pumps without blockage effects is misleading. This paper presents the blockage-induced performance changes for needle-ring electrohydrodynamic pumps concerning pump size at constant flow scattering. The results indicate that the blockage affects larger pumps more than smaller ones. The corona power increases over blockage under constant current mode but decreases over blockage under constant voltage mode. The flow rate decreases over blockage regardless of driving mode. Consequently, the efficiency decreases over blockage under constant current mode but does not change much over blockage under constant voltage mode.
