Geochemical prospecting of polymetallic mineralization in Gimbi-Nejo area, West Ethiopia

•The regional geological setting of the Gimbi-Nejo area shows the high potential of economic minerals.•The geochemical anomaly maps suggest that the following transition metals; Au, Cu, Cr, Ni, Co, V, Ti, Mn, Fe2O3, Zr, Nb are the focus of exploration.•The study area discovered 64 newly mineralized sites (31 Au, 16 Cu, 10 Ni (Co-Cr), and 7 Fe).•The following anomalous zone HS12, HS16, HS18, HS19, HS20, and HS28, could be focus on mineral exploration.•This regional geochemical mapping introduces new background geochemical values for Ethiopia's most common geological domains.
