Injection locking of spin torque nano oscillators using surface acoustic waves

•In this work we have explored the injection locking of spin torque oscillators with Surface acoustic waves (SAW)•Macrospin and micromagnetic simulations (using OOMMF software) are carried out to study the parameters like locking range, locking time, phase difference and steady state power deviations.•The results have been explained in the context of the universal auto oscillator model.•The results suggest that SAW can be an attractive alternative option for the injection locking of STNO devices with a locking range of 50 MHz and a locking time of 10 ns for a strain of 100 ppm.
