•miR-200b-3p was increased in primary hippocampal neurons post OGD in vitro.•β-TrCP is a novel target of miR-200b-3p.•miR-200b-3p negatively regulates β-TrCP expression.•Inhibition of miR-200b-3p prevented the neurons apoptosis and promoted neurons viability.
