Abstract
Microgrids play a vital role in integrating utility grids with distributed generation. The microgrids are capable of working in two modes: grid-connected mode- where it is connected with the grid or islanded mode- where it is not connected with the grid. Nowadays, more interest and focus is on providing cheap, renewable as well as reliable electricity for DC, AC and AC/DC hybrid microgrids. Microgrids are not only capable of meeting the rise in global demand but they also feed power with the usage of renewable sources like PV array, wind, hydro to multiple grids but their real-time implementation leads to several problems like harmonics, power quality and variations in voltage. Furthermore, renewable sources are irregular in nature, thus it also requires energy storage devices like super capacitors or batteries to store energy. Therefore, in this paper different control strategies are listed for various classified grids which will help in overcoming the above-mentioned complications effectively. Moreover, a thorough review will address future trends and challenges, so that a stable and reliable AC/DC microgrid is developed.
