Performance Analysis of DSTATCOM in Distribution Network for Mitigation of Harmonics

Power Quality (PQ) has been a subject of discussion in the recent years. Modern distribution systems experience different PQ issues resulting from the different types of loads connected to the system. In this paper, Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) is applied to reduce harmonics resulting from different loads. DSTATCOM is implemented using Voltage Source Converter (VSC). Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) technique is proposed for the generation of switching pulses for the DSTATCOM. The power system with DSTATCOM is compared with system without DSTATCOM. The compensator under the proposed controller proofs to be effective as the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in system voltage waveform is reduced from 6.66% to 0.06%.
