Power Sharing Control of Multi-Cell D-Type Multilevel Inverters in an AC Micro-Grid

The presented article deals with a novel power sharing control strategy for converter-based micro-grids. In this regard, a micro-grid fed by two parallel-connected D-Type inverters supplying local loads was used. The configuration of the seven-level single-source D-Type converter with self-voltage balancing capacitors eases the control simplicity as well as integration of low voltage DC renewable energies into the higher voltage micro-grids. However, the control of reactive and active power contributions are the challenges. To address this issue, an anti-windup control strategy is proposed. By applying the proposed control for the proposed multi-cell D-type-based micro-grid, voltage regulation of the point of common coupling (PCC) as well as the power transfer control were sufficiently achieved. For more assurance, both dynamic and steady state operation of the system for sudden changes were investigated via MATLAB simulations.
