Research on Capacity Configuration Method of Energy Storage System for Echelon Utilization to Reduce Wind Curtailment

In view of the significant wind power curtailment in China, it is possible to increase the acceptance capacity of wind power with energy storage system (ESS). The application of ESS can also peak-cutting and valley-filling on load to reduce the peak load regulation of the unit. Considering the large number of batteries to be retired from electric vehicles (EVs) in China, the ESS for echelon utilization can reduce the impact on the environment. Therefore, considering the benefits of wind power accommodation, operation and environment, taking the actual operation of ESS, abandoned wind power and grid balance power as the constraint conditions, the capacity configuration method of echelon battery ESS is established. Taking the actual wind power data as an example, the acceptance effect of the configuration ESS for echelon utilization on wind power is analyzed, and the economy is evaluated.
